Description
Rome, Italy. Detail of the side of the central railway station in Rome, the Stazione Termini ("Stazione di Termini"), by Italian architect Angiolo Mazzoni del Grande. Construction of the new Stazione Termini begun in 1938, was interrupted by war in 1943 and was completed only in 1950. Only the sides and the tower-tanks were completed according to the project of Mazzoni. The sides have a typical style known as "neoclassicismo semplificato" (simplified neoclassicism) which was typical of a part of architecture during the fascist period. For the sides of the Stazioni Termini Angiolo Mazzoni took inspiration from Roman aqueducts.
