Description
Rome, Italy. The dome of the church dedicated to Santi Luca e Martina (Luke and Martina) in the Roman Forum near the slope of the Campidoglio. Built in 1635 - 1664 by Pietro da Cortona. The church was given by pope Sixtus V to the Design Academy (Accademia del Disegno) also known as Accademia di San Luca. Cardinal Francesco Barberini was nominated protector of the Academy in 1626, hence the decoration with the bees (heraldic symbol of the Barberini family).
