Description
Rome, Italy. The Arch of Constantine near the Colosseum. The arch was probably built in 315, using in part material taken from other Roman monuments. The eight statues of Dacian prisoners date back to the Trajan's period (98 - 117). The reliefs on the upper portion of the Arch (near the statues) date back to the Aurelian period (161 - 180). The face visible in this picture is the one looking toward via dei Fori Imperiali (North face). The eight columns (four by side) are in "marmo giallo antico" (marmor numidicum).
